Sport aviation oversight

In the safety oversight of sport aviation and parachuting, the Finnish Civil Aviation
Authority is assisted by the Finnish Aeronautical Association (Suomen Ilmailuliitto
ry, SIL). SIL receives a remuneration for these duties from the Ministry of Transport
and Communications.

SIL carries out inspections, e.g. training inspections and aircraft annual inspections, and assists in the oversight of the following operations:

- parachuting - hang-gliding and paragliding
- glider and powered glider, ultralight and experimental aircraft operations
- private flying with hot air balloons.
